Draft — not published

This ranking is blocked on the platform and usability pillar, which is unscored in the current methodology. Platform and usability is unscored in v1.0. It requires hands-on use of a funded account on iOS and Android across order entry, funding, transfers, tax documents and support contact.

The page is excluded from search engines and carries no ranking table. We publish it because the reasoning is worth reading even when the answer is not ready.

Quick verdict

We are not publishing this ranking. An app ranking is a usability judgment, and usability cannot be sourced from a fee schedule. Making one honestly means installing each app, funding an account, placing orders and living with the result — work we have not done and will not pretend to have done.

What to check yourself in the meantime

Two things are worth checking before you judge an app on its interface. First, which legal entity the app's account agreement names, and whether that entity is an active SEC-registered broker-dealer and SIPC member — our broker reviews publish the CRD number for each firm so you can confirm it on FINRA BrokerCheck in under a minute.

Second, whether the app supports the account type you will need next. Several of the best-regarded mobile apps in the US market publish narrow account lineups: eToro US offers individual taxable accounts only, and Robinhood and Webull offer IRAs but no joint, custodial or trust accounts.

How we evaluated

Safety and regulation30%
Evidence: FINRA BrokerCheck entity record — legal name, CRD number, SEC file number and registration status — SIPC membership, and public enforcement actions from the regulator or SRO that brought them.
Fees and total cost30%
Evidence: The firm's own published commission and fee schedule, read in full.
Investment selection22%
Evidence: The asset classes named on the firm's own published pricing or product pages.
Account types and features18%
Evidence: The account types named in the firm's own published account lineup.

Five further pillars — access and eligibility, platform and usability, research and education, customer service, execution quality — carry no weight in any ranking, because none of them can yet be settled from a document a reader can open. What each would require is set out in the methodology.

Researched but excluded

  • SoFi Invest (SOFI SECURITIES LLC, CRD 151717) — Legal entity confirmed via FINRA, but the fee page returned HTTP 403 when we attempted to read it. Re-attempted on 30 August 2026 against the published fee schedule PDF and the SoFi support articles: both returned 403 as well. Secondary summaries of SoFi’s pricing are available and we are not using them — we will not score a firm from anything but its own document.

Frequently asked questions

When will this ranking be published?
When we have completed hands-on testing on funded accounts and can describe exactly what was tested, on which devices, and when. Our roadmap targets this for a later phase; we would rather be late than fabricate it.
